Two days ago, I helped my friend overcome a fear of flying by using an EFT tapping session over the telephone. I’ve used EFT on myself for the last six months or so, but this is the first time I’ve lead another person through a session. I could not be happier with the outcome.
Here’s the story. My friend Betty (not her real name) had a great fear of flying that pertained specifically to fear of air turbulence and fear of flying over water. Betty’s lifestyle required her to fly a fair amount, so this phobia had a serious impact on her quality of life. My friend typically worried herself sick before a trip, and upon boarding a plane, she begged the airline personnel to warn her in advance of turbulence so she could prepare herself. As far as the flying over water was concerned, until recently, Betty had managed to avoid flights that spent more than a few minutes over water. However, a work commitment required that she fly to the Middle East within a few days. She would be flying over water for several hours, and turbulence was almost inevitable.
When I suggested EFT tapping, Betty was skeptical, but was willing to give it a try. I was a little nervous myself, given that I had never lead another person through a session and really didn’t know if it would work.
It was an amazing success. The session took about an hour and a half, which is longer than the EFT experts suggest it takes to get rid of a phobia. However, we ran into two unexpected happenings. First, during the session, I learned that Betty had been traumatized by a scary flight some years ago, and the memories of that particular incident were trapped in her energy field and in her body. We removed the trauma and continued tapping about the phobia. We reduced the intensity of her feelings from a 10 down to about a six.
Then, as we tapped, Betty suddenly started talking about her guilt over going away and leaving her rather dependent family to fend for themselves. Specifically, she worried how they would manage without her should anything happen to her while on a flight. She had a mixed bag of emotions around this situation. These emotions came gushing out in a super, explosive burst — which brought the intensity number down to 1. Another round of tapping in positive affirmations brought the intensity down to zero. Betty considered her fear of flying to be past history.
And — an added bonus, some severe dental pain that hadn’t responded to pain killers was gone after the session. Completely gone. Betty hadn’t mentioned the pain so I hadn’t addressed it during tapping. The stubborn dental pain was gone as if by magic. That was two days ago. The pain has not returned. Betty is not at all anxious about her upcoming flight, and she reports having a better night’s sleep than she’s had in quite some time.
As for me, I’m in awe of how well EFT tapping knocked out this fear of flying — and did it in less than two hours.
Anyone can learn EFT. I taught myself using The Promise of Energy Psychology by David Feinstein, Donna Eden and Gary Craig.
I’ve just discovered Carol Look’s web site where I signed up as an affiliate. She’s trully the ultimate professional when it comes to EFT. If you’re interested in using EFT to overcome various challenges, including weight, pain, eyesight, and many others, I really urge you to take a look at her web site.
And if you have a fear of flying, you know what to do! (Or any other phobia, for that matter!)
