I’ve become a big fan of DLGuard, a script that protects your download links by providing temporary links that disappear after a time you specify.
This is the story: I’ve been neglecting this blog for awhile, due to creating a new site in the scrapbooking niche and launching a new video product that I am selling on that site. This video download led me to searching for a method of offering temporary download links to protect myself against unauthorized downloads. It’s common practice these days for folks to bookmark download links in various social bookmarking sites, which the expected result of hundreds or even thousands of people downloading your product.
I had some particular requirements for the script I used. First, it had to be easy to install and easy to work with. I have some technical skills, but I’m a long way from being a tech whiz. Secondly, it had to work with my autoresponder, which is AutoresponsePlus. Third, it had to be compatible with Paypal and Clickbank, and ideally, with the online credit card processor that I use. Four, the merchant had to have a good reputation for offering prompt and helpful tech support. Fifth, the product had to have shopping cart capability for when I add additional products, and it had to have the capability of handling a membership site, since I have that in mind for my weight loss site later on down the road. This brings us to another issue — the script needed to be approved for use on any site, regardless of where it was actually installed. I have many sites, and have downloadable items from several of them. Finally, the script had to be affordable.
At the recommendation of several guys in the Warrior Forum, I went with DLGuard. This script meets all of my conditions except perhaps one. I do not yet know if it works with InternetSecure, the company that handles my online transactions for my main web site. I’m not saying it doesn’t. I’m just saying I haven’t tried yet, because I am using Paypal for the video product.
At first glance, DLGuard seemed more pricey than some of the solutions I found. However, upon further research, I realized that DLGuard is a one time fee, whereas some of the other solutions (including a free one) had “extra” usage costs that would mean in the long run, I was paying more rather than less.
The script was easy to get installed, and with a free script provided by the very helpful publisher, Sam Stevens, I had the whole thing configured with AutoresponsePlus in a very short time. DLGuard also works seamlessly, they say, with GetResponse and Awber, as well as perhaps a few others. I have not tried any others so cannot agree or disagree on that count.
I completely recommend this product. Secure your site with DLGuard!
